The times are a-changing

It's the end of an era, the last member of the "Muskoka Five", Tomas Kaberle, has been traded to Boston. And we don't even get our own first pick back. However, prospects and draft picks seem to be Burke's prerogative in building a new team. It does seem a little counter-intuitive for a team still determined to make a playoff run (although the better they do, the worse their first round draft pick that no longer belongs to them will be).

I don't disagree Kaberle wasn't as fantastic this season as he's been in the past, and perhaps even is past his peak at this point. I do, however, appreciate what he's done for the team over the past 10 years. The number of articles on the Toronto Star's sports page with his name in the title is one testament to his contribution.

But, moving on, there's some legit optimism about the Leafs making a playoff run. Kevin McGran has an interesting break-down of what they need to do (or what needs to happen) for them to pull off 8th place. I'd like to be optimistic, but I still think they'll either fall short by a few points or require someone else to win/lose to hold the spot by a point.

Ah, I'd forgotten about that hit :(
No, I get exactly how you feel (that was me when they traded Stajan last year, and when Sundin left). I didn't really start paying attention to the Leafs until about 10 years ago, so Kaberle was my one constant holding me to that team of olde. Everyone else seems so new.

We can always hold onto the hope Kabby could be re-signed back this summer...
